Mal on the final bend

Saturday 5 May was Day 9 and the final day of the Great Ocean Road Ride 2012.

Mal and the rest of the cycling team crossed the finish line in St Kilda in Melbourne after starting that morning in Queenscliff.

The day before was a gruelling test as Mal and the team cycled the 135km between Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road and Queenscliff (see the map below).

Once again Mal would like to take the opportunity to thank 99 Bikes at Underwood who lent Mal a replacement bike for the ride.  You can read more about his pre ride dramas by reading the previous update and how he could not have completed the ride without the gracious support of 99 Bikes Underwood.

Mal would like to extend his personal thanks and appreciation to all those people who have already contacted us to make a donation.    We’ll forward to you a tax deductible receipt for your contribution.

The Treasurer handed down the Federal Budget for 2012/2013 last night.

This “back to black” Budget contained proposed changes to income tax, small business tax, superannuation, family benefits, aged care, education and health.

Like all budgets, there are positives and negatives and every person and every business will be affected differently by any changes brought about by the Budget.    At this point we should also remember that the measures contained in the Budget are proposals only and legislation is still required to be passed to make them reality.  Often, any such final legislation can contain changes after debate and clarification occurs.

The $5 million of insurance claims paid to Pacesetter clients shows the value of insurance and that claims really do get paid.

For the 4 year period from July 2007 to June 2011 Pacesetter Financial Services clients have been the recipients of over $5 million dollars of insurance claim payments.  They have been under the full range of policy types which form part of the PROTECT personal insurances strategies that we advise on (ie. life, trauma, income protection, TPD, etc).   They have been paid from a wide range of insurance companies, for a wide range of reasons and paid to a wide range of people.  They have included payments for the young (children) and the old.   They have been paid to professionals and to manual workers.

Where required our PLAN advice services have been called upon to ensure that the proceeds of insurance claim payments received have been managed in the best interests of the claimants who are still with us and those who unfortunately are no longer with us and are now sadly missed.    In some cases, the fees for our financial planning advice services have been paid by the insurance company as a benefit under the insurance policy.

As we announced in our article in January this year, there are 2 current benefactor charities of the Foundation.

Love Mercy is the foundation established by Australian track athlete Eloise Wellings and her colleagues and supports children in Uganda.

The Little Heroes Foundation supports children in Australia living with cancer and serious illness and their families.

We are proud to support both of these worthy charities and proud of our own Mal Jensen who has already done one cycle for charity this year (see article about his Santos Tour Down Under cancer ride) and will embark upon a gruelling 1200km ride along the Great Ocean Road from 26 April with other representatives of Fortnum Financial Advisers and the Foundation to raise money for our nominated charities.
